Originally from France, Olivier Riviera has an innate sense of terroir. Unlike many of his peers in Rioja, he bases his cuvee not on political boundaries and the duration of aging, but on the terroir. He believes in a high-quality hierarchy inspired by Burgundy, so he often classifies his vineyards as Premier Crewe and Grand Cru. He does not follow the traditional model of Crianza, Reserva, Gran Reserva. Olivier steadily and carefully created his products, but he was hampered by high prices for land and grapes in Rioja. As a result, he ventured to pay attention to Arlans, a relatively new DO, located between Rioja and Ribera del Duero. In Arlans he discovered high-quality vineyards with Tempranillo (some quite ancient ones), as well as varieties Garnacha and Albillo.
